Tip Calculation Formula
Tip = Bill × Tip % ÷ 100, Total = Bill + Tip, and Per person = Total ÷ Number of people. For example, a ₹2,000 dinner with a 10% tip is ₹200, making the total ₹2,200 — or ₹550 each for four friends. A quick mental trick: for 10%, move the decimal one place left; double it for 20%.

Service Charge vs Tip in India
A tip is always voluntary. Under the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) guidelines, restaurants in India cannot add a service charge to your bill automatically or by default. How do I calculate a tip quickly?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. For 10%, simply move the decimal point one place to the left; for 15%, add half of that 10% figure; for 20%, double it.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Many people tip on the pre-tax amount, since tax isn’t part of the service. Tipping on the total is also common and slightly more generous — either is acceptable.
