Why This Data Is Reliable
- Primary sources only — original MoSPI press releases, RBI handbooks, or Census reports — not secondary aggregators
- No political framing — data is presented as numbers and trends; interpretation is yours
- Transparent methodology — base years, revision notes, and limitations documented on the methodology page
- Clearly labeled estimates — provisional estimates (PE), advance estimates (AE), and projections always carry that label
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does this data come from?
All figures are sourced from official government publications — primarily MoSPI (National Accounts Division), the RBI Handbook of Statistics, the Census of India, and for international comparisons, the World Bank Open Data portal. Full source details are on the methodology page.
Why do GDP figures differ across sources?
India’s GDP estimates are revised multiple times — from Advance Estimates (AE1, AE2) to Provisional Estimates (PE) to First Revised Estimates (FRE). MoSPI also periodically changes the base year (currently 2011-12; a new 2022-23 series was released February 2026). This site uses the most recent official series and notes when figures come from an older series.
Is this data free to use?
Yes. The underlying government data is publicly available from MoSPI, the RBI, and the Census of India. Our presentation and analysis is free to read. Always cite the original government source when using any figure.
