2. Gestational Age vs. Conception Age

- Conception (Fetal) Age: Measured from the exact day of fertilization. This timeline runs approximately 2 weeks behind gestational age.

Naegele’s rule inherently assumes a standard 28-day menstrual cycle where ovulation occurs precisely on Day 14. However, natural biological variation is common:
Longer Menstrual Cycles (> 28 Days)
If your average cycle spans 32 days, ovulation typically occurs around Day 18. Applying a standard 28-day calculator will estimate a due date 4 days earlier than your actual physiological due date.
Shorter Menstrual Cycles (< 28 Days)
If your cycle averages 24 days, ovulation occurs earlier (around Day 10). Standard algorithms will estimate a due date 4 days later than actual embryonic development.
4. Reconciling Calculations with Dating Ultrasounds
